"Most people in the United States think of feminism or the most commonly used term "women's lib" as a movement that aims to make women the social equals of men. This broad definition, popularized by the media and mainstream segments of the movement, raises problematic questions. Since men are not equals in white supremacist, capitalist, patriarchal class structure, which men do women want to be equal to? Do women share a common vision of what equality means? Implicit in this simplistic definition of women's liberation is a dismissal of race and class as factors that, in conjunction with sexism, determine the extent to which an individual will be discriminated against, exploited, or oppressed."

[TW Rape]

I once had a guy tell me that "practically every woman these days has a rape story" and mine was no different. He was my therapist I was seeing. To deal with rape trauma.

(submitted by anonymous)

men shouldn't be allowed to be women's therapists.

"Ironically, Adolf Hitler displayed more knowledge of how we treated Native Americans than American high schoolers today who rely on their textbooks. Hitler admired our concentration camps for American Indians in the west and according to John Toland, his biographer, "often praised to his inner circle the efficiency of America's extermination—by starvation and uneven combat" as the model for his extermination of Jews and Gypsies (Rom people)."

Men and "I need feminism"

never-obey:

Feminism is about the liberation of females from male domination.

So it makes no sense that men holding sings with "I need feminism…".

They don't need feminism. It's not about them. They don't belong to an oppressed sex class. Patriarchy was created to satisfy their needs.

So if they feel oppressed because they love feminine things etc. it's not feminism they need. What they need is the end of patriarchy.

So instead of clinging to a womens movement they could make their own efforts to destroy the patriarchy.

Ever seen men holding sings with "I don't need the patriarchy because…"?

No? I wonder why…

Embracing gender and erasing biological differences is poison for womens liberation.

I find it absolutely ludicrous when people claim "kink shaming" silences victims in the bdsm community from speaking up.

Do you think victims have a voice as it is? Do you think allowing the bdsm community to carry on without critique is going to somehow those most vulnerable? It's such an absurd statement to make and is just another example of kinksters trying to shut down important discussions regarding ethics and safe guarding.

Survivors aren't silenced by "Kink shamers", survivors are silenced by the ridiculous scale of backlash "kink shamers" get from those who know damn well they have power in their community and are not prepared to have that authority questioned.

the thing is I couldn't give a rat's ass if someone gets their rocks off to certain kinks. If you have a thing for feet, even if it's not something I personally find arousing, I can appreciate you're not hurting anyone/going to hurt anyone.

Instead I worry about those who get off on other people's misery; whether it's rape fantasies, fantasies that objectify already discriminated against groups, or sexual thoughts regarding beating someone to a pulp/choking someone to near death.

That isn't kink shaming, brav, that's recognizing some people get off on suffering and that's not fucking normal, nor should it be encouraged.

And don't fucking tell me I just "don't get it". If you've fucking desensitized yourself to such an extent you think anything is okay if it makes you cum…well, maybe you should be the one to do some research and expand your mind - not me.

How the fashion and entertainment industries made male violence against women "sexy", "stylish" and even "artistic", ergo it became "acceptable" because "sex sells" and "freedom of expression"…it's misogynistic Orwellianism.

"[TW!: Rape] 'The fact is, rape is utterly commonplace in all our cultures. It is part of the fabric of everyday life, yet we all act as if it's something shocking and extraordinary whenever it hits the headlines. We remain silent, and so we condone it…Until rape, and the structures – sexism, inequality, tradition – that make it possible, are part of our dinner-table conversation with the next generation, it will continue. Is it polite and comfortable to talk about it? No. Must we anyway? Yes.'"
